ERRANT GOLF SWING SETS COURSE ON FIRE: In Irvine, California a golfer hit a ball that created a spark and caused a fire. At the Shady Canyon Golf Course a man hit a ball into a rock, causing a spark that lit the dry grass on fire. The Orange County Fire Authority Captain said, "Usually, we're able to close out the fire season in the winters here, but we haven't been able to do that since 2006. That's just how dry it is out there." Approximately 150 firefighters were called to the scene. The golfer asked that his name be withheld for personal reasons. (Msnbc.com)

PISTOL PACKING GRANDMA SHOOTS INTRUDER: 69-year-old Ethel Jones from Decatur, Alabama shot an 18-year-old stranger in the stomach when she found him inside her bedroom. It is believed that the intruder removed a window air conditioner to get inside the home. Jones sleeps with her gun under her pillow and grabbed it when she heard her door rattle. The man is in the hospital and faces a charge of second-degree burglary. (AOL)

DRUNKEN DELIVERYMAN LOST $1.3 MILLION PAINTING: Art courier James Haggerty is being sued for losing a $1.3 million painting after getting drunk in a hotel bar. The 19th century painting, "Portrait of a Girl" by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, was left behind the hotel's front desk while Haggerty went to have a few drinks. Surveillance tape showed that Haggerty retrieved the painting on his way home. When he next appears on surveillance tape entering his apartment he doesn't have the painting. Painting co-owner Kristyn Trudgeon is suing him for the work's estimated value. She said, "I think he's a complete fumbling idiot." (AOL)
